Jake's First Birthday

We celebrated Jake's first birthday on March 28. We invited family from all over the state and were very excited when many of them got to come. We know it was a long drive for almost everybody, but it meant so much to Jason, Jake, and me to have everyone here. For one of my grandmothers, it was her first time seeing our house. We made sure that she got to see Jake's nursery along with the new baby's nursery because she had been wanting to see both for some time.

Jake's latest thing is Elmo. He loves Elmo and grins anytime he sees the red furry creature. There was no doubt that this birthday should be completely devoted to Jake and Elmo. Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the day. Thanks, Aunt Angie for being my photographer for the day. Your rates couldn't be beat!


Nanny Nette made Jake's cakes. Didn't she do an awesome job.

PawPaw had an armful when he held both Jake and Jack. He was originally only holding Jack, but Jake got a little jealous and wanted everyone to know that this was his PawPaw.

Nanny Betty gave Jake an Elmo rocker and it was a hit. Jake loves it! It even talks to him
when he rides!

Jake giving love to Cousin Devin. They don't get to be around each other too much. This picture just shows that we need to all get together more.

By this time, Jake was very grumpy and ready for a nap. This is one of the only smiling present pictures that we have. What can I say, birthday time interfered with nap time!

On a recent trip to visit the some of the grandmothers, we took the kids to Babyland General. While they aren't mature enough to adopt their own babies yet, they enjoyed all of the babies at the nursery. I expect that we will be going back to adopt when they get a little older. Racing to Jake's Second Birthday!

Rev your Engines and Shift into Gear... Jake's Second Birthday is almost here! We celebrated Jake's birthday a few weeks early this year because of Jason's work schedule. His official birthday isn't until March 29, but extra partying never hurts anyone! We also combined his party with a special surprise for Nanna Nette's big 6-0 party. Jake had a blast celebrating with all of his favorite people. Jake found his gifts before the party even started. He was riding his new tricycle from Nana and Papa before all of the party guests arrived. Nanna Nette was surprised to find out that she had helped plan her own party! Jake and Nanny Shewbert

Nanny Shewbert , my great-grandmother, is 98 or 99 years old. (She says she is 98, but the family Bible says 99.) She lived with us some when I was a child to take care of Allyson and me so that Mom could work. Because of this, she and I have always been very close. In fact, I like to joke with my cousins that I'm her favorite. So when Jake came along, I wanted him to be around Nanny Shewbert as often as possible. She lives in Helen, so we don't see her (or the rest of our mountain family) often enough. Jake is incredibly blessed to have 1 great-great- grandmother, 3 great-grandmothers, and a great-grandfather to all welcome him in to the world. For Labor Day weekend, Nanny Nette and I decided to take advantage of the long weekend and get up to see the family.
